Garlic & Peppers

Two things people get plenty excited about are peppers and garlic. Could be the race to find the hottest variety, the perfect balance of heat & flavour or just the diverse ways you can use these vegetables and herbs. The Similkameen is the place for producing those perfect peppers – from the achingly hot to the sweet, and everything in between. Garlic, too, comes to life in the hot valley with an assortment of varieties and all kinds of product derived from this noble herb.

Parsons attended the 19th Annual Hills Garlic Festival in New Denver, BC mid-September and had a great time meeting other producers, sampling varieties and soaking up the festival culture. We had on hand our soon-to-be-famous Garlic Scape Salt and the reaction is always one of “I’ll take two!”. This being the largest garlic gathering in BC and one of the top ten in the world, it’s no wonder people come from far and wide to sample this fantastic BC product.

The next weekend, we stayed closer to home for the 10th Annual Similkameen Sizzle. Yvonne from our farm had on offer some of her unique, delicious Farmer’s Dotter product including Habanero brittle, Habanero Apricot spread, Jalapeño Lime spread, Habanero Apricot & Lime spread along with pickled garlic, scapes & fresh peppers. By all accounts it was a most successful day! Photos from both events should be up on their respective websites shortly but you can check out some images from our farm earlier this summer.

And remember, Parsons Farm Market is still open seven days a week and we are fully stocked for your pepper & garlic cravings!
