The Other Orchard Workers

Honeybees and Ladybugs play a big part in the orchard and ground crop here at Parsons. The bees are busy making rounds and especially favour the flowers of our squash plants, loading up on pollen and keeping the natural cycle in order. There are a few apiaries in the valley, so the relationship between the farmers and beekeepers is symbiotic.

Ladybugs are natural pest control for our organically grown produce and are welcomed, and sometimes introduced, to the orchard and field. These shots are from our flowering winter squash patch in early September, 2011. Busy bugs!
